2 Dudes: Spencer X. Smith and Terry Bilgo

While this weeks dudes are both male, I had 2 more discussions this week on what a female dude would be called. They are called dudes.

I did not go to the DreamBank this week but I did attend another session hosted there via webinar. If you haven’t been to the DreamBank, (Channeling my inner Arnold from “Total Recall”) get your ass to the DreamBank.

This weeks webinar featured Spence X. Smith and the webinar did not disappoint. Spencer is a very high energy dude. As a drummer for Myopic Son, he helped the band meet a goal to play at SummerFest. He built a pyramid that showed how they got there. He used that same pyramid to show us how to meet a PR goal. Spencer has an awesome motto, “Only after I prove they work.” So he used the pyramid to get published in Fortune magazine. After what seemed like 5 minutes and the requisite number of Black Mirror references Spencer had actually talked for an hour. Since the talk I have signed up for HARO (help a reporter out) and have submitted quotes for 2 articles. I also shared an article from CEO magazine, my target to get published in. All of these are items from his pyramid. With a little help and some hard work I will get published in CEO magazine by the end of the year. Here is the pyramid he presented and a link to his site. Sign up for his newsletter, it is awesome and go see him speak.

The next dude I met with was Terry Bilgo. As many of you know one of my favorite books is “The Go-Giver”. Terry is the connector. He knows just about everyone and he loves to make connections. Shortly after I was notified that my position was eliminated I met with Terry. He is the one who actually planted the seed for me to start helping small businesses. I had talked to him about going on my own and pitched him the concept. In his feedback to me he convinced me that I might have what it takes to work with small businesses. Shortly after that the concept for Level 5ive Consulting was born. In my latest meeting he of course connected me with 4 leads to follow-up on. Then we talked in detail about the information security work that he is doing. It is some great work. All small businesses need to worry about information security. Reach out to Terry and he can help.

As always if you don’t have time to meet either of of this weeks dudes feel free to sign up for a coffee or lunch with me here. I would be happy to talk more with you about why you should talk with them.
